La parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen y Santa Teresa se encuentra en la zona alta de Santander, al final de una empinada calle en cuesta. Pertenece a la orden de los Carmelitas. La iglesia fue construida a principios del siglo XX, de estilo neogótico, con tres naves, crucero y coro. Sobre la portada principal se halla una torre de planta hexagonal en la que hay un reloj. La verdad es que deberían limpiar un poco la fachada, que parece ser de piedra, pues está totalmente ennegrecida por el paso del tiempo, la contaminación y el salitre.

En sus inicios albergaba en su interior numerosos retablos, esculturas, frescos y obras de arte, pero la mayoría fueron destruidas por la guerra civil. Se conserva el retablo del altar mayor neoclásico, fragmentos de pinturas con escenas angélicas, dos vidrieras emplomadas, dos cuadros con escenas de la vida de Santa Teresa de Jesús y San Juan de la Cruz. En esta iglesia se encuentra la imagen de la Virgen del Carmen, con rica orfebrería.

La iglesia es sede de varias cofradías de la Semana Santa santanderina.

The parish of Our Lady of Carmen and Santa Teresa is located in the upper part of Santander, at the end of a steep sloping street. It belongs to the order of the Carmelites. The church was built in the early twentieth century neo-Gothic style, with three naves, a transept and choir. On the main cover is a hexagonal tower in which there is a clock. The truth is that they should clean the entire front, which seems to be of stone, it is completely blackened by the passage of time, pollution and salt.

In the beginning housed inside numerous altarpieces, sculptures, frescoes and works of art, but most were destroyed by civil war. It retains the neoclassical main altar, fragments of paintings with scenes of angels, two stained glass windows, two paintings with scenes from the life of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. This church is the image of the Virgen del Carmen, with rich gold.

The church is home to several guilds of the Easter Santander.

The Church of San Sebastian Martin dating from the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, in the late fifteenth century, when the neighbors decide to build Bottom Carabanchel of his church in the place it now occupies.

San Sebastian was a second-century Roman martyr and begged that as a protector against the plague.

On December 30, 1495 the City of Madrid accords solar Down Carabanchel Council for the construction of their church. The original church was of brick Moorish style with three naves covered with paneling Plateresque.
In the seventeenth century underwent a profound transformation to suit the Baroque Madrid. In 1691 the ships covered with vaults that hide the paneling above. Inside is decorated with pilasters and Corinthian capitals and gets up the tower with a spire of slate, still preserved today. He added two side chapels dome: San Jose and Carmen.
This building was destroyed in July 1936. With the fire lost altarpieces, carvings, paintings and the parish archives.
During the period 1943 - 1948 took charge of the reconstruction project of the church DG Regions Devastated by the architect Ignacio Fiter Clave, in the same place and with the same dimensions as the old temple. This church was dedicated on January 20, 1948 by Auxiliary Bishop Casimiro Morcillo.

The present church has three naves, the central of greater width and height. The head is covered with high lantern dome on pendentives. The facades are of brick and masonry covered with a stucco finish. The main entrance houses a stone sculpture of San Sebastian. The other cover, which opens the space for the ship Carabanchel the Gospel and has a stone sculpture of Our Lady of Antigua. The Tower is the one erected in the seventeenth century.

The church is home to three fraternities: The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Holy Christ recumbent, the Brotherhood of Santiago and the Brotherhood of San Jose, leaving the holiday procession del Carmen, Santiago and Easter.

La Iglesia de San Sebastián Mártir data del reinado de los Reyes Católicos, a finales del siglo XV, cuando los vecinos de Carabanchel de Abajo deciden edificar su iglesia en el lugar que hoy ocupa.

San Sebastián fue un mártir romano del siglo II y al que se rogaba como protector contra la peste.

El 30 de diciembre de 1495 el Concejo de Madrid concede un solar al Concejo de Carabanchel de Abajo para la construcción de su iglesia. La primitiva iglesia era de estilo mudéjar de ladrillo con tres naves cubiertas con artesonado plateresco.
En el siglo XVII sufre una profunda transformación para adecuarlo al barroco madrileño. En 1691 se cubren las naves con bóvedas que ocultan el anterior artesonado. Se decora el interior con pilastras y capiteles corintios y se levanta la torre con un chapitel de pizarra, que hoy todavía se conserva. Se le añaden dos capillas laterales con cúpula: la de San José y la del Carmen.
Este edificio fue destruido en julio de 1936. Con el incendio se perdieron retablos, tallas, cuadros y el archivo parroquial.
Durante el periodo 1943 - 1948 se hace cargo del proyecto de reconstrucción de la iglesia la Dirección General de Regiones Devastadas según proyecto del arquitecto Ignacio Fiter Clavé, en el mismo lugar y con las mismas dimensiones que el antiguo templo. Esta iglesia fue bendecida el 20 de enero de 1948 por el Obispo Auxiliar Casimiro Morcillo.

La iglesia actual consta de tres naves, siendo la central de mayor anchura y altura. La cabecera se cubre con cúpula con linterna elevada sobre pechinas. Las fachadas son de ladrillo y mampostería recubierta por un estucado enlucido. La portada principal acoge una escultura de piedra de San Sebastián. La otra portada, que se abre a la plaza de Carabanchel correspondiente a la nave del Evangelio y posee una escultura de piedra de Nuestra Señora de la Antigua. La Torre es la que se levantó en el siglo XVII.

The church is built over an ancient Muslim mosque, whose remains can be seen on organized tours. The horseshoe arches of the Islamic era rest on columns reused from Roman and Visigothic origin.

Along the chancel is a Visigothic pillar with reliefs of Christ's life, but the figures show the faces deleted in the Muslim era. The stone tower is for the minaret of the mosque, the bell tower, brick baroque added.

The exterior is decorated with reliefs Visigoths some reused. In the twelfth century was dedicated to Christian worship, becoming the parish church of El Salvador.

In the late fifteenth century, at the top was built adjoining chapel of St. Catherine, shows late Gothic. In this church was baptized the future Queen Juana of Castile, mother of Emperor Charles V and it just the adventures of Lazarillo de Tormes.

La iglesia está construida sobre una antigua mezquita musulmana, cuyos restos se pueden ver en visitas organizadas. Los arcos de herradura de época islámica se apoyan sobre columnas reutilizadas de origen romano y visigodo.

Junto al presbiterio se encuentra una pilastra visigoda con relieves de la vida de Cristo, pero las figuras presentan los rostros borrados en la época musulmana. La torre pétrea corresponde al alminar de la mezquita, con el cuerpo de campanas, en ladrillo barroco añadido.

Al exterior se decora con algunos relieves visigodos reutilizados. En el siglo XII se dedicó al culto cristiano, convirtiéndose en la parroquia de El Salvador.

A finales del siglo XV, en la cabecera se construyó la capilla anexa de Santa Catalina, muestra del gótico final. En esta iglesia fue bautizada la futura reina Juana de Castilla, madre del emperador Carlos V y en ella acaban las aventuras del Lazarillo de Tormes.
